Exchange, Collaboration and Network Nodes are the keywords! BEK_dns, an audio project scanning the sonic terrain in and around Bergen. The final collection of works, a mix between mature academia and the experimental scene, includes the whole range of audio, from low-fi, 8-bit, noise, found sound, to live audio processing. Bergen's contemporary music scene is multidimensional, where many of the artists focus on the collaborative aspects of music, as a working process, and in performance.

BEEOFF
Inflict
23.2-15.3 2004

The streaming performance of "Inflict" could be followed 24 hours a day

--->
Inflict is a part of the project RRF curated by Wilfried Agricola de Cologne.

The general project theme is “Memory and Identity”, a theme with several complicated discussions. We, as beings, build our identity on our own achieved experiences combined with a collective one – the history. Everything we experience, forms our identity and the surroundings - our culture, our country, city, neighbourhood are formed from what is going on at the moment and what has been going on in the past.

Focusing on our private memories. How do they look like? Are they fragments or larger views? Are they static and objective or do our memories change according to when they are merged together with other memories and experiences?

There are two parts in the Beeoff piece “Inflict”. One is produced at SAT in Montreal by one of the Beeoff artists who is staying there as an artist in residence this spring. Another part is produced in the Splintermind studio in Stockholm in Sweden. In every day of the Inflict project a short film will be produced in Montreal on the identity theme. In the same time another artist will work with the memory theme in Stockholm and make a performance where he will combine photographs, ink drawings and artefacts resembling of a period when he lived in Japan. He will video tape his performance daily and the documentation will be put on as a layer on the real-time image. The result is that the broadcast image will be more and more blurred as new layers are added. This will also result in a gradual and more complex image over the performed time and it will be more and more difficult to see what is going on in real-time and what is recorded previously. Now and past will be mixed together to something else. On top of that the short films from are Montreal added.

Inflict will show how something we think we remember clearly and we think that we have an objective view of is changing constantly over time. In our memories colours are changed and different episodes and persons are mixed up to a subjective image of the past, or, perhaps a distorted reflection of ourselves. And here lays the complicated connection between memory and identity.
